SYNOPSIS

Area 420 is a short sci-fi comedy about an elderly alien who appears in a county fair parking lot and wanders into one of the loudest, brightest, weirdest corners of human life.

After meeting Jewell and Kate, he experiences fair rides, games, camel rides, and his first encounter with weed. What begins as a strange day at the fair becomes a small, ridiculous, oddly sweet story about friendship, culture shock, and the universal search for “more fun.”

Created for the Ozark 48 Film Open, Area 420 turns a 48-hour filmmaking challenge into a lo-fi alien comedy with practical charm, digital VFX, and a very Arkansas sense of humor.

Crafting the Story

Area 420 was created for the Ozark 48 Film Open, a 48-hour short film festival in Northwest Arkansas. The project was built around a fast-moving production schedule, a small team, and the unpredictable energy of a live fair setting.

The result is a short, scrappy sci-fi comedy that uses the pressure of the festival format as part of its charm.
