SYNOPSIS

When a terminally ill man hijacks a stranger’s body using experimental technology, he discovers that her mind refuses to be erased. Set against the neon-drenched backdrop of Northwest Arkansas, this POV-driven sci-fi horror explores themes of identity, consciousness, and the desperate lengths we’ll go to survive.

Crafting the Story

Shot entirely in Northwest Arkansas over four days, “Dirty Halos” blends surreal visuals with practical effects to create a uniquely unsettling aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from Wong Kar-wai and Satoshi Kon, the film employs a mix of low frame rates, slow-motion acting, and post-processed visuals to immerse viewers in its fragmented narrative.

Penelope Giese

As mORGAN

Penelope Giese brings theater experience in performing and directing to her role. Since entering film in 2017, she’s studied at Actor’s Studio Chicago. Known for dynamic acting and positive energy, she delivers a compelling performance enhancing the film’s narrative.

Scott Doss

As Travis

Arkansas native with extensive theater experience, Scott has degrees from the University of Arkansas. He performed while working as an advertising copywriter at JCPenney. His haunting portrayal of Travis’s desperation anchors the film.

Ethan Flake

As Butch

Ethan delivers an authentic edge and compelling intensity as pivotal character Butch. He showcases his creative versatility and unique perspective through his YouTube channel “Sabotage Bros Studios” where he acts, directs, and writes.

Zak Wonder

AS BARTENDER

A recent graduate and emerging talent, Zak Wonder brings fresh energy to his role. Beginning in local theater before transitioning to film, his performances receive acclaim for authenticity, making him an exciting addition to the production.Retry

Zac Counts

Writer, director, & Producer

Zac Counts, a Fayetteville Arkansas picture maker, studied under Neal Harrington and Tom Huck while earning his Design degree. After years in advertising, he began directing in 2020. “Dirty Halos” is his 4th short film.

Harrison Jones

Director of Photography

Harrison, an engineer-turned-filmmaker, shot the film in one day. He wrote, directed and produced the award-winning Helldivers fan film “Memorial” (2024). He creates YouTube shorts, showcasing his developing filmmaking skills.

Julia D. Borkowski

Casting Director

Owner of JB Talent Konnections, Julia serves as casting director and location scout. As executive director of the Berryville Film Festival, she casts shorts, features, series, and music videos throughout the NWA region.

Jewell Regan

1st Assistant director

Arkansas filmmaker Jewell Regan directed “The Gold” in 2023. A University of Arkansas graduate, she’s worked as assistant director on “Untitled” and “70X7.” Her organizational skills kept production running smoothly.
